Backstabbr Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes the information Backstabbr collects when you use the Backstabbr.com website and any related tools or applications (collectively the "Services"), and how we use it. It supplements our Terms of Use.

Information We Collect

To use Backstabbr you must provide us with an email address and a name (though it does not need to be your legal name). Backstabbr runs on Google Cloud and uses Google (via OpenID) for sign-in, so Google may also obtain information about your use of Backstabbr; Google's use of that data is subject to its own privacy policy.

In addition, we collect the content and game data you create (such as orders, messages, and game history); basic technical information your browser or device sends when you use the site, such as your IP address and characteristics of your browser, device, and network; and a small identifier we store on your device to recognize it across visits. We use this technical information for the purposes of protecting the integrity of our games from fraud and cheating.

Legal Bases for Processing

We process your personal data on these legal bases: to provide your account and the games you take part in, which is necessary to deliver the service you have signed up for; and to protect the integrity of our games by detecting and preventing cheating, fraud, and abuse, which is in our legitimate interests. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed those interests against your rights and freedoms and keep a record of that assessment.

How Long We Keep It

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy. Account information is kept while your account is active. Technical and integrity-related data used to detect cheating is kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. Completed game records may be kept, in anonymized form, as part of the historical game archive. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data, including the integrity data associated with it.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in, core site functionality, and analytics (Google Analytics). We do not use these technologies for advertising.

Sharing

We will not sell or rent your email or any other personal information you choose to provide us, and will not disclose it except to the extent necessary to provide the Services to you (for example, to our hosting and infrastructure providers such as Google) or as required by law.

International Transfers

Backstabbr is operated from the United States, and your information is processed there. When we transfer personal data from the EEA or UK to the United States, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including our hosting provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your Choices and Rights

You can view and update your name and email, and delete your account, at any time from your account settings; deleting your account erases your personal data. Depending on where you live (including the EU, EEA, and UK), you also have the right to access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have your data deleted, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because this processing exists to protect our games and players from cheating and fraud, we may continue it despite an objection; to stop it entirely, you can delete your account at any time.

Children

We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone below the ages described in our Terms of Use.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, so check back if you're interested. For material changes, we may ask you to accept the updated Policy before you continue using Backstabbr.
